I was super stoked to read this story. I have never read Ella James before and was excited for this friends to lovers tale. Buuuuuut it really wasn’t all it was hyped up to be.
Amelia grew up next to Dash, the ultimate super sexy boy next door. I didn’t like this story for a number of reasons. I felt like Amelia was a huge fucking doormat that Dash continuously wiped his feet all over. She loved him and he abused every part of that love. Dash repeatedly crushed Amelia over and over—dropping in and out of her life at will. And like the ever faithful doormat she was, Amelia took him back again and again. And there wasn’t even any suffering or groveling on Dash’s side. Amelia was just there with open arms- blah blah blah. Their total lack of respect they had for each other was astounding. It made them both seem like weak people.
And then there was this huge ‘secret.’ The secret popped up towards the beginning of the story and is drawn out and out…….and out. When the secret is finally revealed, I was so frustratingly pissed by being strung along for so long. And it occurred right towards the end of the story. There was no time to process and with such an epic secret…….Amelia surprisingly (not surprisingly) “got over it” and yay!! it’s the happily ever after. Really?!?!? Are you freaking kidding me?!?!? This secret was kept by Dash for YEARS!!! Years people!!!! And then it’s revealed and it’s just okay?? There’s no way I would be able to process let alone get over something of ‘years withholding magnitude.’
OK, so I didn’t like this. But I read the entire thing and that should count for something. Right? Honestly, it doesn’t turn me off from the author but this story just didn’t do it for me.
