I didn’t notice her before…but now I do.
The shiny strands of gold in her silky brown hair.
Tiny crinkles between her eyebrows when she frowns.
Her passion for neatness.
Once I focus on her, I can’t take my eyes from my newest obsession. Ever.
I need to know everything about her.
Her past. Her present.
The way she takes her coffee.
Exactly how she smells after a spritz of perfume in the mornings.
She’s perfect in every way and I was blind.
But, God, now do I see.
I notice the organized way she arranges her clothes in her closet.
How she visits the same market each Saturday.
The sounds of her breathing as I lie beneath her bed in silence.
Violet is mine.
She just doesn’t know it yet.
Notice is a dark and unusual romance. Extreme sexual themes and violence in certain scenes, which could trigger emotional distress, are found in this story. If you are sensitive to dark themes, then this story is not for you. If you aren’t into super obsessive stalkers, then this story is not for you.
3.5 “What’s in the Box?” Stars
Unusual. Dirty. Disturbing… And, actually, pretty funny and endearing. What? Don’t look at me like that! It totally works!
Focus. For Grayson “Hawk” Maxwell, focus is something he’s all too familiar with. (Or maybe in his case it’s more accurate to say hyper-focus.) Just like when he was a Marine Corps sniper in the Gulf War, he is able to focus solely on his work—or target—and drown everything else out. So, when his assistant of six years, Violet, slams her two-week Notice down on his desk, it’s the first time he truly sees her. And just like that, his focus has changed. To her.
Violet O. Simmons is mine. She just doesn’t know it yet. T-minus fourteen days…
Clearly, Gray has some obsession/stalker issues—I mean, he sneaks in to sleep under Violet’s bed just to be close to her. But, damn, if he didn’t get me with how earnest he was in his need for her. His thoughts are so outlandish, yet delivered with deadpan seriousness, you can’t help but giggle even despite the disturbing scenarios he puts himself in.
I don’t want to leave her side, but having her wake up like this would be bad for our budding relationship.
Violet was a bit of a mixed bag for me. Her backstory with her ex-boyfriend, Vaughn, is horrific. Told through flashbacks, what she survived at his hands are some of the darkest parts of the book. However, I did have a few issues with some of her actions and reasoning. Mostly that they sometimes felt unrealistic to the situation. But, all in all, what she went through definitely made me root for her.
In the end, though, it’s Gray’s character that had me turning the pages. That man can creep you out, make you laugh, and turn you on all at once. This author knows how to bring the unusual. So, if you can keep an open mind though a few unrealistic bits and you’re looking for a dirty talking obsessive hero with a sweet streak, this book is for you.
